What an amazing city, the capital of Mexico, full of history, culture and art.  Upon arrival, we immediately fell in love with this vibrant metropolis.  Mexico city is full of museums, historical buildings, parks, and has an amazing history, spanning several centuries. The population of the city is either 15, 18 or 30 million people, depending on the estimates of each day’s Uber driver!

The history of Mexico City stretches back to 1325 as the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan. According to  history, the city was founded after their principal Aztec god, indicated to build a city where an eagle stands upon a cactus, with a snake in its mouth.  This image is now the logo in the center of the Mexican flag, since Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821.

The whole Aztec city was destroyed  during Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, and Mexico City was later built on the ruins of their capital city.

We did our best to  explore this amazing city in 4 days, and of course  it was not enough! We will be back!  Hasta Pronto CDMX!

Quintana Roo

Quintana Roo, Mexico, embodies the perfect blend of natural wonders, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant coastal charm. Cities like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, highlights the Riviera Maya that also boasts a 625-mile-long coral reef (the Mesoamerican Reef) along its aqua-blue water coastline,  providing some of the most idyllic diving and snorkeling opportunities in the world.  For inland water experiences, there are countless amazing and beautiful Cenotes. These limestone pools provide a truly unique full immersion experience, in their refreshing (some say ‘bone chilling’)  clear waters, and underwater caverns, that must be added to everyone’s ‘bucket list’.  Add to this, the many historical and archeological wonders of  Mayan Civilization Ruins, and it is easy to arrive here with ‘great expectations’ and given enough time, fulfill them all. Or at least most of them.

Our earlier visit to Veracruz had been cancelled due to issues with motor parts, with no estimated time to reschedule the flights. So we were happy to be finally reschedule in April to visit with our friends, with plans to  then travel together to Mexico City.

Veracruz is one of the 32 states of Mexico. The city of Veracruz is the largest city by far in the State of Veracruz, but interestingly, not the capital. The Capital of the State of Veracruz is Xalapa, pronounced Halapa, which we were able to visit a few days after.

Yucatan is one of the 32 federal states in Mexico. Having once been a thriving Mayan civilization and then later colonized by the Spanish, it has a rich blend of mixed cultures, food types, and architecture. For instance, the world famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, and the hidden gem Ek Balam, to mention only 2, mixed in with the many Catholic Churches and large haciendas, offering a fascinating cultural fusion.  Mexican, along with Mayan culinary experiences abound.
